TEAMS: Look like you are in one room

Remote working is great, but you can still miss that ‘together’ feeling when you’re on a Teams call. Here’s how to make it look like you’re all in the same room.

Make Microsoft Teams Meetings Feel More Natural with Together Mode

Video meetings can often feel disconnected, with participants boxed into separate windows. Microsoft Teams Together Mode offers a more immersive alternative by using AI to place everyone into a shared virtual environment, making meetings feel more like you’re all sitting in the same room.

Whether you’re holding a team meeting, running a training session, or catching up with colleagues, this can help create a more engaging and collaborative experience.

How to Turn On Together Mode

Enabling Together Mode only takes a few clicks during an active Teams meeting.

  1. Start or join a Microsoft Teams meeting with at least five participants.
  2. Click View (or More options represented by the three dots) in the meeting controls.
  3. Select Together Mode.
  4. To change the virtual setting, click Change scene and choose from the available environments, such as a conference room, auditorium, classroom, or café.

Within seconds, everyone with their camera switched on will appear seated together in the selected virtual scene.

Tips for the Best Experience

To get the most from Together Mode, keep these suggestions in mind:

  • Position yourself correctly. Sit with your head and shoulders centred in the webcam so Teams can accurately place you within the virtual environment.
  • Encourage everyone to turn on their cameras. The feature is most effective when participants are visible, making conversations feel more natural and allowing you to pick up on facial expressions and body language.
  • Remember it’s a personal view. Enabling Together Mode only changes how the meeting appears on your screen. Other participants will need to switch it on themselves if they want the same experience.

Why Use Together Mode? It is particularly useful for:

  • Team meetings
  • Training sessions
  • Virtual classrooms
  • Brainstorming workshops
  • Social catch-ups

By placing everyone in a shared space, it reduces the fatigue often associated with traditional video grids and encourages more natural interaction between participants.

If you haven’t tried Together Mode yet, it’s well worth exploring. It’s one of Microsoft’s most effective features for making online meetings feel more connected, engaging, and collaborative.
